Tooth Whitening in New York

There have been several methods of tooth whitening in recent years, marking the evolution of cosmetic dentistry.

There are store-bought, over-the-counter whitening kits that are not dentist supervised and can have some unpleasant side effects. There are home tray tooth whitening treatments available at many dental offices, including our Staten Island practice. These kits do work, but they require a significant time commitment for several weeks in order to see results. Relapse is also a problem unless tooth whitening is maintained regularly.

"Power Tooth Whitening" and laser tooth whitening are also methods that are used, but they are very technique sensitive and the results are unpredictable. We've tried all of these tooth-whitening methods in our cosmetic dentistry office.

BriteSmile is different - it is a form of Power Tooth Whitening with some amazing benefits. First of all its safety and effectiveness have been tested independently at two different Universities. The ergonomic design of the tooth whitening system maximizes the whitening effect with a minimum amount of chair time. This results in whiter, brighter teeth in about one hour, with a minimum of after-care maintenance. The results will have you smiling all the way home!

We use BriteSmile tooth whitening in our Staten Island office, where we treat patients from Staten Island, Brooklyn, and other parts of New York, as well as New Jersey.

Porcelain Veneers in New York

Porcelain veneers are the benchmark by which all cosmetic dentistry is measured. These thin sheets of porcelain allow us to perform true Smile Makeovers for our dental patients. Utilizing porcelain veneers at our Staten Island, New York office, we can simultaneously change the shape, color, size, and alignment of teeth during the course of only two office visits.

Each case is carefully planned with both the patient and our laboratory, utilizing cosmetic imaging, carefully mounted models of the mouth, and "diagnostic wax-ups." Our porcelain veneer patients in New York can actually select the smile they want from our" Smile Catalog," which is a collection of differently shaped smiles that we have compiled over our many years of successful work in cosmetic dentistry.

Our use of porcelain veneers in our Staten Island, New York, cosmetic dentistry office effectively treats patients from Staten Island, Brooklyn, greater New York, and New Jersey.

Full Mouth Restoration in New York

Full Mouth Reconstruction - The Smile Lift. There are many reasons why a person might need a significant amount of dental treatment.

Sometimes it's because of years of neglect. At other times, people who have seen dentists regularly all their lives, and have had one tooth problem treated at a time, reach a point where all of these restorations begin to deteriorate. Sometimes there is a breakdown of the gums, which then leads to problems with proper biting, or causes jaw pain. Other full mouth restoration cosmetic dentistry patients are those who are just unhappy with the cosmetic appearance of stained front teeth, old crowns, or a mouth filled with silver mercury fillings.

These patients require comprehensive treatment by an experienced prosthodontist often referred to as Full Mouth Reconstruction or "Smile Lift".

Due to our commitment to excellence, post-graduate training, and on-site dental laboratory, our office is uniquely qualified to provide patients with full mouth reconstructive services. These services include tooth whitening, placement of porcelain veneers, replacement of amalgam fillings, and prosthodontic treatment in New York.

New York prosthodontist Dr. Mormino and his staff have a serious commitment to the detail, precision, and experience needed to perform smile lifts efficiently and predictably for New York New Jersey, and Brooklyn cosmetic dentistry patients.

Implant Dentistry in New York

For individuals who wish to replace missing teeth, implant dentistry at our New York practice may be an effective long-term solution. Dental implants provide greater structural support and last longer than either bridges or dentures. Dental implants serve as the artificial root to which new teeth are bonded. They are typically constructed of titanium, a strong and safe material that effectively attaches to bone. The procedure to insert dental implants typically involves three steps: the implant insertion stage, osseointegration (the period of healing for the jawbone), and the attachment of the restoration or new tooth.

Tooth Colored Cosmetic Fillings in New York

Utilizing new bonding technology, silver mercury fillings are now unnecessary. It is no longer required that you have a silver or black "badge" announcing to the world that you have had cavities.

What a dramatic change!

We do not believe in silver mercury fillings in our office and have not placed any in several years. First, there is the mercury issue. Although it has never been proven that mercury from silver amalgams is harmful, we do know that mercury itself is harmful and these fillings do contain some mercury. Since we only provide the very best for our patients, staff and families, we prefer to err on the side of caution.

Secondly, silver mercury fillings weaken the tooth over time due to the fact that there is little or no adhesion to the tooth. This is why when your silver filling breaks, it usually takes a part of the natural tooth along with it (leaving a lot of leakage and decay behind).

Thirdly, and very importantly in a cosmetic practice such as ours - a tooth colored filling looks much more natural than an amalgam filling. As long as meticulous attention to detail is used, a tooth colored, bonded filling will be long lasting, mercury free, and virtually undetectable in the mouth. A beautiful, "metal-free" mouth is possible. Visit Dr. Joseph Mormino in Staten Island, New York, for more information on replacing tooth fillings.
