How Many Veneers Do I Need?

The number of porcelain veneers needed depends on the issues you wish to correct, the number of affected teeth, and your cosmetic goals. Dr. Mormino will examine your smile and determine the proper number of porcelain veneers to achieve great cosmetic results.

Candidates for Porcelain Veneers

While most patients will qualify, there are a few basic requirements in order to be a good candidate for porcelain veneers...

Good Oral Health

You should have good overall oral health before undergoing cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Mormino can first treat any decay or gum disease before moving on to veneer treatment.

Sufficient Tooth Enamel

Dr. Mormino will need to remove a thin layer of surface enamel before placing dental veneers. For this reason, patients need a sufficient amount of tooth structure to support the restorations.

No Bruxism

While porcelain is a very durable restorative material, patients with bruxism, also known as tooth grinding, can fracture their dental veneers. We may recommend an alternative form of treatment, or an oral appliance (such as a mouth guard) to protect the teeth.

We Can Create Dental Veneers  In Our On-Site Dental Laboratory

Our Staten Island, NY, office is one of the rare dental practices that has its own on-site dental lab. This allows us to complete various restorative and cosmetic dentistry treatments under a single roof.

Collaborating with Lab Technicians

Dr. Mormino works closely with the lab technicians to achieve optimal results. This ensures that the restorations are the right color, and that they fit properly once completed.

Adjustments While You Wait

If a completed veneer does not fit your tooth, we can make chairside adjustments rather than sending the veneer back to an off-site facility. That means fewer delays in placing a completed porcelain veneer.

The Porcelain Veneers Treatment Process

Veneer treatment involves two separate visits to our Staten Island, NY, office. Here is what you can generally expect during treatment.
We can hold veneers to the highest standards at our own on-site dental lab.
We can hold veneers to the highest standards at our own on-site dental lab.

Tooth Prep

During your first appointment, Dr. Mormino will discuss your goals and concerns to make the best recommendation. If you agree on veneers, he will remove a small amount of enamel from the front surface of each treated tooth to create room for the porcelain shells.

Impressions

Next, we will take detailed impressions of the reshaped teeth, which will be used to fabricate your veneers. Dr. Mormino then makes a wax mock-up, which is an anatomical model that will show you the anticipated results of treatment.

Veneer Creation

At most other practices, your impressions are sent off to an outside facility for production. However, we are proud to feature an on-site dental lab where our team can craft high-quality restorations under our careful supervision.

Placement

Once your veneers have been created, you will return to our Staten Island office for your second and final appointment. During this visit, Dr. Mormino will use a special adhesive to bond your veneers securely to the surface of the teeth, instantly and dramatically enhancing the look of your smile. With proper care, your veneers can last for a decade or longer.

Our Office Is Convenient and Efficient...

"Loved the warm and friendly staff! The dentist was excellent. The on site lab made things move along so much more quickly with no extra back and forth. Convenient parking lot and coffee didn't hurt either :)" Lina Marie

Veneers Look Just Like Natural Teeth,  Only Better!

While veneers in the past may have been considered bulky or unnatural-looking, modern treatment matches the look and feel of real tooth enamel. With our innovative design tools and high-quality craftsmanship, veneers are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth.

How Do I Care for My Veneers?

Caring for your veneers is as simple as caring for your natural teeth. Dr. Mormino has just a few recommendations to help stretch the lifespan of your results:

Practice Good Dental Care

The best way to maintain your cosmetic treatments and the overall health of your smile is to practice good oral hygiene. Brush twice a day and floss daily with a non-abrasive toothpaste. Take extra care around your treated teeth and make sure to attend regular appointments at our Staten Island practice for check-ups and professional cleanings.

Prevent Stains

While your porcelain veneers are stain-resistant, your natural teeth are not. You can prevent discoloration by staying away from foods and drinks that are known to stain the enamel such as sodas, red wines, and coffee. Dr. Mormino can also provide occasional teeth whitening treatments to touch up your smile and remove any color inconsistencies.

Avoid Excess Pressure

Be mindful of the amount of pressure exerted on the teeth to prevent fracturing or dislodging a veneer. While you shouldn't have to alter your diet while wearing veneers, patients should refrain from chewing ice, biting their nails, and opening packages with their teeth.

LUMINEERS Ultra-Thin Dental Veneers

In addition to dental veneers, our Staten Island, NY, practice also offers LUMINEERS®. These ultra-thin veneers have numerous benefits for patients.

What Are LUMINEERS?

LUMINEERS are a thinner and more translucent variation on standard dental veneers. LUMINEERS can be used to hide chips, cracks, and other issues.

LUMINEERS vs. Dental Veneers

With traditional dental veneers, about half a millimeter of tooth enamel is removed to achieve a proper fit. LUMINEERS are just 0.3 millimeters thick, which means they require less preparation, if any.

Should I Get LUMINEERS?

/

While LUMINEERS require less prep than porcelain veneers, they may not be suitable for patients with large chips or severe stains. In those cases, slightly thicker dental veneers may be more ideal. During your visit, Dr. Mormino can determine if LUMINEERS or porcelain veneers are better for your needs.
