This health news article follows a study, which suggests that individuals who have teeth and gums in poor condition may be at higher risk for an oral virus, Human Papillomavirus (HPV), that leads to throat and mouth cancers. While the results of the study do not indicate that diseased teeth and gums cause HPV infections, a correlation has been found.

 

One of the researchers in the study, Christine Markham, stated that her team accounted for other additional factors such as smoking in the study to find other possible links to HPV.
