Restore Your Smile with Custom Dental Crowns Made in Our Office

A dental crown offers a trusted and effective way to restore a damaged or badly decayed tooth. At most practices, crowns are manufactured at an outside facility, and patients can sometimes wait weeks to receive them. When you turn to Joseph T. Mormino, DDS to meet your restorative needs, your dental crown will be custom-crafted at our Staten Island, NY, practice thanks to our advanced on-site dental laboratory. Additionally, our on-site lab also allows Dr. Joseph Mormino to provide same-day crowns in many cases. To learn more about the benefits of dental crowns, contact Joseph T. Mormino, DDS today.

An Introduction to Dental Crowns

A crown is a tooth-shaped restoration that is used to provide support and improve a tooth's function and appearance. These trusted restorations have been used on millions of patients, and advances in dentistry have led to the introduction of new materials that allow crowns to look incredibly natural. You may benefit from a crown if you have:

  • A cracked or weakened tooth
  • Extensive tooth decay that is too large for a dental filling
  • Dental erosion that affects the force of your bite
  • A tooth with significant cosmetic flaws, such as intrinsic stains
  • An unusually shaped or proportionately small tooth

A crown can also be used to replace a missing tooth by attaching to a dental implant, which is a small metal post that acts as an artificial tooth root.

Crown Fabrication and Placement

Receiving a traditional crown is a two-step process. During your first appointment, Dr. Mormino will numb the area before gently removing damaged or decayed portions of your tooth. Next, he will reshape the tooth in order to create a strong base for your restoration. To complete this first appointment, we will take impressions of the reshaped tooth, which will be used by our lab technicians to custom-craft your dental crown. We can provide a temporary crown for you to wear in between appointments.

Once our lab has created your crown, you will return to our practice to complete treatment. Dr. Mormino will take the time to ensure that your crown fits correctly and looks natural. Since we have an on-site lab, we can make adjustments to your restoration, if needed, here in our office. The crown will be bonded securely in place, instantly improving the appearance of your smile and returning balance to your bite. With proper care, your new crown can last for 15 years or longer.
